Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) is a 10-Year visa offered to foreigners from around the world, who fulfill certain criteria, to come, live and retire in Malaysia along with their spouse and children. This wonderful and one of its kind programme is being offered by the Tourism Ministry, Government of Malaysia. It is open to nationals of countries recognized by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age. This programme allows applicants to bring with them their spouses, children who are unmarried and below the age of 21 as well as one maid and a car free of duty. Successful applicants will be granted a social visit pass initially for a period of 10 years, which is renewable thereafter (subject to the validity period of their passport).

Financial Requirement
Successful applicants are required to comply with certain financial criteria upon receipt of the ‘conditional approval letter' from Malaysia Immigration Department. Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves for the duration of their stay on this programme in Malaysia, without the need to work in the country. Roughly speaking, an offshore monthly income of minimum RM 10,000 per month is expected of all applicants. The programme has been dividend into two age groups with slightly different criteria for each as described below:
i Aged Below 50 years:
- Applicants aged below 50 years are required to show proof of liquid assets worth a minimum of RM500,000 and offshore income of RM10,000 per month.
- Open a fixed deposit account of RM 300,000
- After one year, can withdraw up to RM 150,000 for house purchase, medical expenses or children’s education.
- Must maintain a minimum balance of RM 150,000 throughout stay in Malaysia.
i Aged 50 years and above
- Applicants aged 50 and above are required to show financial proof of RM350,000 in liquid assets and off shore income of RM10,000 per month.
- Can either choose to:
- Open a fixed deposit account of RM 150,000 ; OR
- Show proof of monthly off-shore income of RM 10,000 (only government pension scheme can qualify for off-shore income).
- After one year, can withdraw up to RM 50,000 for house purchase, medical expenses or children’s education.
- Must maintain a minimum balance of RM 100,000 throughout stay in Malaysia.
Note: Effective July 1, 2008 - Applicants who purchase a home or multiple residential properties worth more than RM$1 Million and 5 years earlier, will not be required to open a Fixed Deposit of RM$300K or RM$150K to obtain the MM2H Status ... Applicants will ONLY be required to open a Fixed Deposit of RM 150,000 (below 50) or RM 100,000 (50 or above) to maintain their MM2H Status.
Fixed Deposit Criteria
- Fixed deposits must be in Ringgit Malaysia (RM) at a bank in Malaysia only.
- Prior Government approval is required for withdrawal of funds after one year.
- Entire fixed deposit maybe withdrawn anytime upon termination of MM2H programme
Other Requirements & Conditions
Medical Report
All applicants and dependents (spouse and kids) are required to submit a medical report.
Medical Insurance
All applicants and dependents (spouse and kids) must possess a valid medical insurance policy.
Employment
Participants under MM2H who are below 50 years of age are not allowed to work/be employed while staying in Malaysia. Qualified MM2H participants aged 50 and above with specialized skills and expertise that are required in the critical sectors of the economy, are allowed to work not more than 20 hours per week.
Actions
MM2H Participants must not involve in activities that can be considered sensitive to the local people and a threat to national security. |
